What is included in an exterior painting quote?
An exterior repaint should begin with a surface list. Cladding, window joinery, doors, soffits, fascia, fences and separate buildings are different items; agree which ones are included before comparing prices. Tell us if the work is limited to one elevation or involves the whole property. We assess the existing coating and condition before discussing the preparation and finish.
The written scope should identify the proposed products, access arrangements, protection and clean-up. If you may complete the work in stages, ask for optional items to be separated. That makes it easier to choose a sensible order without confusing one stage with the complete project.
Preparation matched to your cladding
Timber, masonry and sheet cladding do not all need the same treatment. We discuss how to clean the surface, remove unsound material and prepare repairs so the selected system can adhere. Washing pressure and methods must suit the material; aggressive washing is not automatically the right approach. Surfaces also need adequate drying before coating.
Point out known leaks, recurring cracks and damaged timber. These may require repairs beyond the painting scope. If older coatings or materials may be hazardous, assessment comes before disturbance. A repaint should improve a sound exterior rather than hide a defect that continues beneath the new finish.
Choosing colours and a suitable paint system
Consider the roof, joinery, paths and landscaping alongside the wall colour. Samples should be viewed on the property in different light. For a multi-unit development, confirm any shared-property colour approvals before final selections. The specification should name the actual primer and topcoat products, not simply the paint brand.
Dulux and Resene systems are part of the existing Ideal Painting offering. The right choice depends on substrate, exposure and compatibility with the existing finish. Product instructions determine application conditions and drying requirements; there is no universal coating schedule suitable for every exterior.
What affects exterior painting cost and timing?
The size and height of the building, access equipment, detail work and condition of the existing paint all affect the scope. A heavily weathered wall can require more preparation than a larger surface in sound condition. Ask whether repairs and equipment hire are included, and whether the total includes GST.
Weather can change the programme. We discuss access and scheduling at the site visit, then plan coating work around suitable conditions. Any change to the agreed scope should be discussed and priced before additional work begins. A property-specific quote is more useful than an online price range that does not account for your home.
A practical handover and maintenance plan
At completion, review the agreed surfaces together and record any touch-ups. Keep the product and colour details for future maintenance and ask when washing can begin. Check exposed areas periodically and investigate peeling, staining or water entry early. The useful life of a finish depends on its environment, preparation and care, so a single lifespan promise is not appropriate for every property.
Exterior painting questions
Can you paint weatherboards and plaster-clad homes?
We can assess different exterior substrates and discuss a compatible coating system. The condition of the material and existing paint determines the preparation. Building defects may need a separate repair contractor.
Is scaffolding included?
Access equipment is assessed for the particular building. Ask for the arrangement, hire period and cost treatment to be stated in the written quote.
Do you paint in winter?
Work depends on surface moisture, weather and the selected coating’s instructions. The programme needs a suitable application and drying window.
How do I request an exterior quote?
Email the address, surfaces involved, photos and preferred timing, or call 027 818 8868. We can discuss the scope and arrange a site visit.
